NFS RECOMMENDS Ace City Racers

The NewFoundSound team are big Ace City Racers fans and we’ve previously featured them as our Artist of the Week in Scotland on Sunday. Their brilliant new single You’ve Got the Notion is Single of the Week on the BBC in The Afternoons show on BBC Radio Scotland with Janice Forsyth and Grant Stott. Listen at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000w2x7

The equally good Gideon Takes the Train, was released last month via Last Night from Glasgow records, and like much of the Glasgow trio’s output, was produced by Sam Smith (of Casual Sex) at Glasgow’s Green Door Studios. LISTEN to

Gideon Takes the Train is unusually political for ACR, about former chancellor and ‘architect of austerity’ George Gideon Osborne returning to his roots as an investment banker. The band describe him as being “like an out of control virus, we believe he must be stopped” - it’s refreshing to see musicians highlight social inequities and the absurdity of multi-millionaires overseeing the benefits system.

Despite the unscrupulous subject, Ace City Racers remain a great deal of fun. James Barker, Mark Daniels and Andrew Campbell are heavily influenced by classic brit-pop bands like Pulp, Blur and Gideon Takes the Train also features a danceable 80s drum-machine that you can’t help but move to.

The group have had music produced by the legendary Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur), performed at Indietracks, Liverpool Sound City, for Vice Magazine, been championed by Clash, The Skinny and even count the legend - Johnny Marr as a fan!

Gideon Takes the Train is taken from their next album Citalodisco out on 4 June 2021 via Last Night From Glasgow.

In the meantime, watch the DIY video which premiered via Louder Than War, and listen to debut album Take It, It’s Yours ⬇️
