Aino Elina

Originally from Pöntsö in Lapland, Finland, Aino Elina has made Edinburgh her home for the past few years. The electro-pop artist was our Artist of the Week in The Scotsman / Scotland on Sunday in 2019 and we’re excited to hear her forthcoming debut album Jäät lähtee (Thinning ice), supported by Creative Scotland and being released by Finnish label Masi Music later this year.

The UK isn’t the most receptive to foreign language music, but there is plenty here, dreamlike, atmospheric, ethereal, Nordic electro-pop, with some songs in English and Finnish. The upcoming, homemade music video for Suuntaa (Direction) was filmed by Elina in Edinburgh, on a closed golf course during lockdown, and by Kimmo Naukkarinen at Suontee lake, Pertunmaa in Finland. It’s stunning, time-lapse, drone footage out 5 March
