INTRODUCING: Funeral Lakes

INTRODUCING: Funeral Lakes

Hailing from Vancouver and living in Toronto, Canadian girl/boy duo Funeral Lakes is Sam Mishos and Chris Hemer.

They’re a fiercely independent act, with a strong DIY work ethic, self-releasing and self-producing all their music. Latest EP, Golden Season is no exception. Here at New Found Sound we’ve had the EP on repeat all week, and we absolutely love it. Their sound is reminiscent of Arcade Fire and not unlike the Canadian supergroup, lyrically speaking instead of the usual light hearted alt-indie love songs (there is some of that too) it’s serious stuff. The songs are packed full of social and political commentary, with opener Eternal Return covering “toxic masculinity….the misery fuelled by the false promises of politicians.”  Earth Falls exploring the “..alarming realities of the world we’re now living in..and how it feels to be grappling with the fear of it all” meanwhile final track, the punk inflected Power Trip criticises the “heteropatriarchy” that exists within society.
