The Super Moons single You’re Not Alone was released at the beginning of February via Infinite Hive Records. They played the Dragon Soop virtual OpenMic at the start of the week, and we had a blether with the band ⬇️

How and where did you get together?

We formed during the summer of 2017. Three out of five of us live in the same street and it came out of that. Jamming turned into songwriting which then fostered an ambition to do something more with the music.

What are the band's main influences?

We’ve all got quite diverse musical tastes. Influences include Lee Dorsey, The Yardbirds, The Stone Roses, Jake Bugg, Paul Weller, Northern Soul, Stax, Bill Withers, The Prisoners, John Fulbright, Bob Marley, Toots & The Maytals, Small Faces, The Strypes, The Who, Curtis Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, The Doors, Ray Charles, Ray LaMontagne, Queens of the Stone Age, The Allah-Las and loads more.

Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?

Mostly gigging around Central Scotland. There were some positive signs for festivals this past year but obviously that didn’t materialise.

Previous releases have secured us some airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and UK wide.

Tell us something funny or unusual that not a lot of people will know outside the band?

We played a gig in Stranraer and had booked an Air B'n'B house for the night. When we turned up the house, well it didn’t exist, so we had to find a last minute B&B which involved double beds as it was all that was available. Not a good night’s sleep!

What’s next?

We have recorded an album and are just working on the artwork and physical formats. There will be CD and vinyl releases as well as downloading. It has taken us the best part of a year to record due to the various restrictions in place and self-isolation spells, etc. It is all self-funded as we have no financial backing.

The album should be released during April/May (tbc).

Is there a particular ethos behind the album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?

Nothing in particular really. We seem to have an unconscious tendency to write about the ordinary, people and events, so this comes through in the songs.

We are really pleased with how the album has turned out and hope as many people as possible get the opportunity to hear it.
