Words by Derick Mackinnon and Olaf Furniss. Read on Scotsman.com

Falkirk-based singer songwriter Calum Baird, was regularly touring across mainland Europe and throughout the UK before Covid-19 struck. He’s been championed by Jim Gellatly, Amazing Radio, Bella Caledonia, Calon FM and performed alongside the likes of Kyle Falconer, Dick Gaughan, and scores of international artists.

Baird writes political / protest songs, and his excellent EP, A View From the Notebooks (released earlier in the month), touches upon all too familiar 2020 themes. The pandemic, alienation, climate crisis, the absurdities of the world we live in, but also the beauty just underneath the seemingly bizarre surface.

As a therapeutic and creative hobby he took up painting during lockdown. The result is a full colour, hand-painted artwork that accompanies the EP, he wanted to paint his bleak subject matter in colour, emphasising his optimism for the year ahead, we think the perfect way to end 2020 https://calumbaird.com/
