Speak Easy Circus

INTRODUCING Speak Easy Circus new single Sewn Up out now

Speak Easy Circus is Jack Avison (guitar/vocals/keys), Jon Wallace (saxophone/keyboards), Fenwick Lawson (trombone), Frazer Laurie (drums) and Chatonda Ridley (bass).

To date they’ve secured airplay via BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio, and played sold-out gigs at the likes of King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and the O2 Academy. During the first lockdown the band created their own video series titled Quarantunes which they streamed live on YouTube and Facebook, performing remotely.

Their debut EP Bravo Tango Charlie saw them being compared to everyone from a bizarrely diverse cross section of artists from The Libertines to Earth, Wind and Fire, Vulfpeck, Frank Zappa and Snarky Puppy. Follow up singles include Neon in Daylight, released in 2020 (a self-proclaimed “summer-banger”) plus last year Lions Should Hunt and Company of Men.

Speak Easy Circus most recent single is Sewn Up. We had a quick chat with Jack Avison to find out what the song is all about:
“The story of the song is really the story of my favourite pair of jeans, that ripped and left me heartbroken, until I watched a YouTube video to teach myself how to sew. From then on, instead of throwing clothes away I started to clumsily stitch them up. It made me think of all the previous clothes I had thrown out. Why didn’t we fix more things? Why weren’t we taught to sew at school? Why was sewing seen as feminine? It seemed to me there were no downsides.”
