Tell us a little about yourself
I'm Yona Marie, a singer, producer, song writer and marketing professional from the Washington, DC area. I've been creating songs for over 15 years and have no intention of stopping any time soon. I sing anything that matches well with soul singing. That can include Hip Hop, Funk, R&B, House, Jazz, and much more. Outside of entertainment, I'm on a never-ending journey to becoming the best version of myself each and every day. I want to take more risks. I want to push past my anxieties and my fears to make a positive impact on others' lives.

What is your new single I’m Still Loyal about
I'm Still Loyal is a dedication to those who have provided their friends, family members, or romantic partners with unyielding love and loyalty over time. I hope anyone that has given or received authentic love will be able to relate to the song, it’s also a reminder of how much of a blessing having a loyal person in your corner can be. The simplistic writing and production with early 2010 hip-hop vibes feed into the feeling of love and loyalty between souls that have been connected over the last several years.

Do you take inspiration from what's happening in the world around you, or are lyrics / songs based on personal experience?
Most of my songs are based on personal experience, but I do take inspiration from what's happening around me for my songs pretty frequently. As an example, a recent release I did with Band Of Pockets called "Don't Want Trouble" allowed me to explain, through songwriting, my personal experience with being a black person in America as well as the struggles that black men often face.

How does your songwriting / recording process work?
Many of my song projects involve me creating instrumentation first, or creating from another producer's instrumentation. For my jingles and podcast intros that I write, I like to come up with the melody line first and create the instrumentation around it after. This also happens from time to time with my own songs if I get a hook or verse idea in my head at random. What do you have in the calendar, festivals, work, releases?

What do you have in the calendar, festivals, work, releases?
I am currently working on an EP that will be released in 2023 and feature some of my most personal lyrical storytelling ever. I hope that many people will be able to relate to my battle with mental health and use the songs on the EP to ease their own anxieties that they face daily in life. I'm also working on several projects that include jingles, blogs, and video content on my site.

Your blog posts with marketing advice for artists on your website are really good, how did you learn about music marketing?
I studied Music Business with a concentration in Marketing at Jacksonville University. I first went to school for Vocal Performance, but I figured I had a lot of training throughout grade school and needed to start understanding key business fundamentals to see real success. Since then, I've been obsessed with learning how the music world operates.

Tell us something most people won’t know about you?
Okay, I'm going to get cheesy here for a bit, but I'm getting married in 5 months to the love of my life! I'm so excited and blessed to have the opportunity to share my life with such an amazing guy that I truly connect with. I always thought the saying was just overdramatic, but "true love really feels easy" when you're matched well. Of course, life can be a mess and nothing is perfect, but real, pure love can provide you with so much light.
